Che Suraya memiliki keahlian akademik yang berfokus pada farmasi klinis dan kebijakan penggunaan obat, dengan penekanan mutakhir pada manajemen nyeri non-kanker dan risiko penyalahgunaan opioid. Publikasi terbaru menunjukkan pergeseran signifikan dari kajian awal tentang resistensi antimikroba dan swamedikasi antibiotik menuju analisis mendalam tentang pola eskalasi dosis opioid pada pasien penyakit ginjal kronis, faktor risiko penyalahgunaan opioid di klinik nyeri Malaysia, serta tren resep gabapentinoid dan benzodiazepin. Riset ini menggunakan data klaim asuransi dan rekam medis elektronik untuk mengevaluasi pola peresepan, biaya obat, dan durasi terapi, dengan metode kuantitatif seperti studi potong lintang retrospektif dan kualitatif seperti wawancara semi-terstruktur. Selain itu, ia meneliti kompetensi apoteker dalam dispensing opioid di Pakistan dan Malaysia, serta pengembangan kurikulum Farmasi Doktor untuk menjawab kebutuhan regional. Pada masa pandemi, ia juga mengkaji faktor risiko progresivitas dan mortalitas COVID-19 serta penggunaan deksametason. Secara keseluruhan, arah riset terkini berpusat pada farmakoepidemiologi opioid, keamanan pasien, dan peran apoteker dalam mengatasi krisis opioid, dengan objek kajian meliputi pasien nyeri kronis, pengguna opioid, dan tenaga kesehatan di Asia Tenggara dan Asia Selatan.
